Vintage Checkers into Magnets

Meal prep doesn't have to be boring.

We inherited a set of old wooden checkers from our grandmother. Ended up having them for about five years before the a-ha idea arrived to put them to a great functional use. Functional is a must if it is a keep item.

As a new mom, I want to have meals together, which is why I encourage this project.

The local craft store was having an excellent clearance on random metal pieces.

The metal pieces consisted of eye hooks and the swirly paper clips.

A little dab of glue from a glue gun, and these little magnets were created.

Now, for dinner preparation, we write on little cardboard hearts all the dinner options we could think of. They are kept in a family-created box. Reused weekly, but has many delicious options. As new recipes surface, they are added to the mix.

We place them in the bowl from our great-grandmother (1906).

The children get to pick out the number of hearts we need for the week.

At that point, we make the grocery list based on the hearts.

Tada! Fun. Easy. Go team!

Recipe for this craft:

  1. Old Checkers/Trinket

  2. Strong magnet(s)

  3. Glue gun and glue

  4. Paperclip of some sort

  5. Paper desired

  6. Marker or Sharpie.

  7. A container to mix and choose from

  8. A box or container to keep your dinner options in.

I hope this inspires your family to appreciate the precious gift of time and wellness.

Happy Creating!

~ Brandi
